At the PACK.Nxt conference in Mumbai on 18 January, Raj Bhatia, consultant at Fasiculus, presented three anti-counterfeiting solutions designed to help consumers verify the authenticity of products.

Highlighting India as one of the world’s top five markets for counterfeit products, Bhatia said sectors such as FMCG, apparel, and agri-chemicals – where 25-30% of items are reportedly duplicates – are the worst affected. Similarly, approximately 20-25% of the products in pharma, automotive, and consumer durables are deemed non-authentic.

Bhatia introduced three innovative anti-counterfeit solutions:

Fasi Mark: An invisible, non-copiable watermark that is encrypted and remains unseen to the naked eye and cameras. Fasi Mark can be easily scanned using any mobile phone. Key benefits include its non-copiable and non-cloneable nature, ease of use, geo-tagging capabilities for each scan, and the ability to track and report counterfeit goods.

Fasi Code: A non-copiable digital passport wherein an encrypted code sits adjacent to a QR code, readable by a mobile application. Similar to Fasi Mark, Fasi Code offers advantages such as non-copiability, ease of use, and the ability to track and report counterfeit items.

Fasi Color: A distinctive color patch that is readable using a mobile phone torch light. The patch changes color when the product is genuine. This feature is designed to be non-cloneable and requires no internet connection, making it suitable for a less literate audience.

The three solutions are simple and affordable and can help supplement the efforts brand owners are taking to track counterfeit goods,” Bhatia said.

These solutions can be used across industries such as pharma, seeds and fertilizers, consumables, ready-made garments, footwear, and cosmetics.

The company addresses the need to authenticate a product’s authenticity without the inconvenience of an APP download. So the Fasi Color product has the following features: No APP download is needed; no internet connection is required; consumers can check and authenticate instantly.

The company provides innovative authentication, identification, and tracking technologies. Our core security solution is powered by award-winning technologies with more than 150 patents. These now enable us to generate over 6 billion security labels every year. We believe our company has now put together the first packaging and labeling industry blockchain for products and brands,” Jatin Talwar, a spokesperson for Fasiculus, told AIPIA’s Andrew Manly during the conference.

It is important that the smart packaging sector in India is given platforms like PACK.Nxt to show the levels of technology now being achieved and to highlight the demand for these across the value chain,” Talwar added.
